Today’s leadership seems to be all about large bureaucracies growing the kinds of leader that have the charisma of a wet rag…
Customarily we see leaders made up of fake skills, advanced in order to get them out of the way, chests full of medals & awards, fake & unearned decorations, platforms of silliness, paternalistic behaviors, silly walks, and sillier talks, stupid decisions, and fancy clothes.
Unfortunately true leadership is not about all of these, or even about birthright, nepotism, money, or even about a lofty title.
None of that.
It’s primarily a learned skill, and attitude, and a type of charisma that you can master.
It is about being an Effective motivator of human acumen, from cradle to grave.
Because effective Leaders on the long term, think about the short haul, act holistically, and enforce discipline, always knowing that they must lead by example, inspire others, carefully manage, and build the very personalized culture of whatever unit they happen to belong to, or have chosen to lead through Virtue, Charisma, and Personal Glory.
But in terms of economics — they use these basic business skills and utilize some advanced Kung-Fu, such as Strategic Decision-Making Anticipatory evaluation and situational awareness, whereby they evaluate, make informed decisions, and advanced Empathetic Communications, as they listen to understand, foster productive discussions, and capitalize through Innovative Thinking, to Promote originality and flexibility, via Emotional Intelligence, Direct Action with self-awareness, and calmness that always allows them to navigate challenges, with plentiful Resilience, through strong Leadership, mental strength and adaptability in tough situations.
Yet, having naturally built Team Empowerment, the challenges faced are multiplied and become manifold as they scale their domain, and grow their fiefdom, and they occassionally need moments of respite that will allow them to step back and retrench.
And that is why all others need to fall in line, step into the breach, or rest in the vanguard, when tired and in need of emotional retreat, recharge, and reconnection.
Because the leader has to have lieutenants who can take up the slack, when the boss-man is manifesting greatness by guiding the future, while charting their own and the organization’s path, and nurturing the team’s development along with the successive young leaders, who can step up and lead in the field, in the trenches, or in the breach.
So if you fashion yourself to be a leader — you can ask yourself…
Which of these competencies come natural to you?
Which require some work?
And then, most importantly… “get to work” now to find your successors.
Yours,
Dr Churchill
PS:
Always act intentionally.
Reflect often.
Adjust, learn, and grow along the way.
And as you grow as a leader, so will your impact grow upon all those around you.
On the people around you that you can count upon as solid.
On your company, your family, your community and your country.
All of it and everywhere, matters.
It matters, because Effective Leaders help everyone win.
