Every woman should have:
A youth she’s proud to outgrow with a smile.
And a few reckless adventures, to be able to tell long tales.
Tales to share and laugh about, with her grandchildren.
Every woman should have:
A toolkit with real screwdrivers, a multipurpose Black & Decker drill, and some electric toys…
And one black lace bra and tiny panties that reminds her, she’s still got it.
Every woman should have:
A gay friend who makes her laugh, dancing & eating cake, in the Seattle rain.
And another friend, a secret lover, who will hold her hand in silence, for as long as it takes.
And use these friends interchangeably, when her world falls apart without warning…
Every woman should have:
At least one great piece of furniture she bought herself, like a Grand Dame fainting couch, in leopard print velvet upholstery.
A car that is totally hers, not inherited, nor borrowed — but a jalopy of her choice, that is truly hers.
Every woman should have a Man she can call her own. The one to trust…
A man she can invite home for dinner and a romp in the bedroom, even if its just a booty call at midnight, after a long night out.
And she needs a home with a decent dining table, a few chairs, a couple of matching dinner plates, a pair of long stem wine glasses, and a couple of candlesticks for an intimate dinner for two.
And one signature dish she can quickly prepare, and serve with pride.
Every woman should have:
A solid belief that she is in charge of her own life.
And every woman should know:
How to fall in love — without losing herself.
She should know:
How to quit a job, how to leave a toxic relationship, how to leave a City and move to her dream town, or passion village
A woman ought to know how to confront a suitor, an adversary, a boss, a “frenemy,” even a friend — and still hold her own, fighting fiercely, and yet always preserving her dignity.
She should know:
When to fight for something — and when to let go.
She should know:
She cannot change the length of her legs, the shape of her hips, or her own, and her parents’ past, but she can change everything else. Her boobs size and shape, her derriere, her face, lips, and duckbill, her eyebrows and cheekbones, and all the rest of her anatomy.
She should know:
That her childhood may not have been perfect, but it is over, and she has survived.
She should know:
What is worth doing for love, and what should never be done for love, for lovers, for family, and indeed for anyone else but herself.
A woman should know:
How to live alone, even if she doesn’t like it.
She should know:
Who to trust, whom not to trust, who to romance, and whom not to.
And that shedding romantic tears, usually has everything to do with her.
Crying for others is just sympathy.
Learn the difference between the two, and keep driving in your own lane — if you don’t want to cry too much in life.
Also, please do not expect to make Men cry over you — because You will be disappointed.
A woman should know:
Where to go when her soul needs stillness, and where to go when she needs to get silly, drunk, or happy.
Whether it’s a friend’s kitchen, a dive bar, a lush lounge, or a lakefront mountain hideaway.
She should know where to go be herself, because every woman is a complete & total universe.
And knowing herself, is the most important journey she’ll ever take.
Because, when she is ready her whole world will be upended and fixed at the same time.
And that’s when she will find herself being happy.
